• To dismiss Never Mind the Bollocks as a sequence of loud, amateurish rock songs without a recognizable melody, performed by a gruff singer with a scratchy voice, would not do justice to the album. Johnny Rotten’s wild, sarcastic attacks on British society were indeed rude, confrontational and unfriendly. But beneath the gruffness lay a concern: to express criticism of the social conditions, frustration, anger and discontent of the British working class.
