Description:

A Requiem by Arnold Rosner (19452013), a composer based in New York. Composed when Rosner was 28 years old, this Requiem draws not on the traditional Latin text, but on a wide range of texts from around the world, including poems by the American poet Walt Whitman and the French poet Franois Villon, as well as Tibetan and Japanese scriptures and the Jewish prayer Kaddish. Furthermore, while incorporating Renaissance polyphony, the work as a whole adheres to a Romantic style, creating a captivating atmosphere. Parts of the work are adapted from an opera (unfinished) based on Ingmar Bergmans film *The Seventh Seal*; the music set to the scene in which the protagonist plays chess with Death reflects Rosners profound reflections on life and death.Naxos Japan
