Among the highlights are lesser-known pieces: the posthumously published “Episode”, which reminds us that Kreisler was a pupil of Bruckner; the Viennese Rhapsodic Fantasietta, close in spirit to La Valse and touched with something like madness; and the unaccompanied Recitativo and Scherzo, worthy of Ysae himself. The result is a distinctive album in which a razor-sharp, finely tempered sound meets a tone of pure beauty.
