The gallant and elegant sounds that filled the court of Frederick the Great.Ensemble Notturna, led by Baroque oboist Christopher Parameter, is pioneering new repertoire. To date, the ensemble has released three albums featuring the chamber sonatas of Johann Gottlieb Janitsch (17081763), a composer who is believed to have enjoyed considerable popularity within the Prussian court orchestra during the generation bridging Bach and his sons. This latest 2018 album, released by DHM, features works by Christian Gottfried Krause (17171770), who was active at the Prussian court during the same period as Janitsch, and Johann Gottlieb Graun (17031771). In 1736, Janitsch became a member of Crown Prince Fredericks (later Frederick the Great) private orchestra; he later moved to Rheinsberg, where he established the famous Friday Academy.
