• Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the reissue of Ammar El Sherei’s cult album, Music From The East, released in 1976 on the Soutelphan label. Here the Egyptian musician and composer (1948-2012) revisits seven standards by another Egyptian legend, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, in an instrumental way, mixing Arabic music and funk arrangements with the psychedelic sound of the synthesizers of the time. El Sherei is one of the giants of Egyptian music. He attended a special school for the blind in Cairo (he lost his sight in early childhood). Thanks to this education, he quickly learned the piano, the oud and composition. In 1976, he signed with the Egyptian label Soutelphan and recorded Music from the East.
