Description:

A collection of contemporary works performed by the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica String Quartet. All of the composers featured here are Pulitzer Prize winners, and their works are thought-provoking and full of highlights. Rans Shin, Ky, Reki, Oku is a work honoring the painter Felix Nussbaum, who died at Auschwitz in 1944. Higdons Voices is filled with deep stillness following an intense burst of energy. Additionally, the quintet by the female composer from Zurich, featuring the captivating, sensual sound of the alto saxophone, is a technically demanding piece that allows each performer to fully showcase their virtuosity. The saxophonist featured here is Otis Murphy, a professor at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.Naxos Japan
