Masterful Alexander Paley from Moldova, who has recorded and released a series of difficult Rachmaninoff Russian pieces in his full glory. This time, he takes on Rachmaninoff’s collection of preludes and the exercise “Sound Pictures,” Op. 33. The 10 preludes are in C-sharp minor, nicknamed “The Bells,” and Op.23. The brilliant technique of this piece is a must-see. Although “Pictures of Sound,” Op.33 is known today as a total of eight pieces, Paley performs it using the 1914 Gutheil first edition, so numbers 3, 9, and the originally missing number 4 are not included.
