Description:
This is the third and final volume of the complete orchestral works of the British composer Nixon (18421907). Although Nixon enjoyed great fame during his lifetime, he gradually faded into complete obscurity. Only a handful of his works remain, but the TOCCATA label has undertaken the task of recording them and has already released two volumes of his complete orchestral works as world premiere recordings. This third volume features seven works, including the Coronation March for Edward VII, which was Nixons final composition. Nixons music reveals influences from Mendelssohn, Schumann, Weber, and Sullivan, and these recordings clearly demonstrate that he was an outstanding musician in his own right. Although most of the works included here were unfinished, thanks to the skillful orchestration by conductor Paul Mann, these recordings prove that Nixon was indeed a master of melody in Victorian Englan
