Born in Sicily, A. Scarlatti rose to prominence in the Habsburg Kingdom of Naples, and in 1684, at a young age and to the surprise of many of his senior colleagues, he was appointed Royal Kapellmeister. *The Triumph of Divine Grace* was composed in 1685, the year his son Domenicowho would later make a name for himself as a master of keyboard musicwas born.
