A collection of sacred works by Giovanni Battista Casali, who was born in Rome in 1715 and served as choirmaster at the Basilica of St. John Lateran from 1759 until his death. A composer of choral works who flourished in the churches and cathedrals of Rome at the time, he composed numerous works that served as a bridge between the Baroque and Classical periods, while drawing on Renaissance polyphony as his foundation. His works also occasionally feature surprisingly dissonant harmonies.Founded in North Somerset in 2017, the Costanzi Consortnamed after the 18th-century Roman composer Giovanni Battista Costanziis dedicated to introducing lesser-known works from the 16th through the 20th centuries.Naxos Japan
