The composer Groven (19011977) was born in Telemark, a city in southwestern Norway. In the early 20th century, this region flourished as an industrial area and was also known as a treasure trove of folk music; it is said that before he turned 15, Groven had already composed over 200 folk dance tunes and performed them on the Hardanger fiddle. Captivated by the charm of folk music, Groven settled in Oslo, and even after receiving a formal musical education, he devoted himself to conveying the beauty of folk music to the public. He not only actively promoted them through radio programs and articles but also collected some 2,000 Norwegian folk songs, even traveling as far as Alaska to gather melodies passed down by the Inuit.
