Introducing a Mendelssohn album by French pianist Philippe Cassard, born in Besanon in 1962. While Sony Classical has already released Natalie Dessays *Schubert: Lieder*, this album marks Cassards solo debut on the Sony Classical label. Cassard earned high acclaim in the piano and chamber music departments at the Paris Conservatory; he subsequently studied under Nikita Magaloff and others, was a finalist in the Clara Haskil Piano Competition, and won first prize at the Dublin International Competition in 1988. Since giving a recital in Paris with Christa Ludwig in 1985, he has gained worldwide renown as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. When one thinks of Cassar, the name Debussywhose complete works he has performed all over the worldmay inevitably come to mind first; however, he also has a distinct voice as a Schubert interpreter in France and is highly regarded for his
