Based on Goethes masterpiece *The Sorrows of Young Werther*, this opera delicately portrays the sentiments of a sentimental and passionate young man. Although it has been described as too somber, it is a masterpiece brimming with beautiful melodies. Directed by the internationally acclaimed Romanian director Andrei Serban, this production of *Werther* shifts the setting from Goethes era to the modern 1950s, quietly portraying the characters inner conflicts. While Alvarezs beautiful voice is certainly a highlight, this recording is also known for cementing the fame of Galncha, who has since become a world-renowned singer.
