From the 18th century through the mid-19th century, the flute made remarkable strides as a musical instrument. The four pieces included here were composed during that fascinating era. Winter, a composer from Mannheim, is best known for his clarinet concertos, but he also wrote such a wonderful flute concerto. Also worth listening to are the bold and dazzling works by Lahner, famous for his chamber music, and the elegant compositions by the Bohemian-born Rossetti (born Antonn Lesler).
