In the month before his death, he left behind a recording of *The Song of the Earth*, which he had arranged himself. In this version, arranged in 2010, the solo partsalto (mezzo-soprano) and tenorremain unchanged, while the large orchestra has been replaced by a 15-piece ensemble based on a woodwind quintet and string quartet, supplemented by low-register instruments, keyboard instruments, a harp, and percussion. True to De Leus reputation for actively engaging with and researching modern and contemporary music, this arrangement skillfully brings out the characteristics of each instrument. Compared to the famous Schoenberg and Rein version, the addition of more woodwinds and a harp has made the expression far richer,
