Description:
The “saxophone” is an instrument invented in the 1840s by the Belgian wind instrument maker Adolphe Sax. Although it is not often used in orchestras, many composers have taken an interest in this instrument and, through collaboration with saxophonists, have produced outstanding works. In this work as well, a collaborative effort took place: composer Alberto Posadas, a fellow Valencian, wrote a piece designed to explore the instruments full potential for the Valencia-born saxophonist Ricardo Cappellino, who then performed it. Fulgida~ takes its title from a collection of poems by Antonio Machado; it is a piece lasting about 20 minutes that is abstract yet imbued with a narrative quality. The innovative soundcreated by combining the saxophones diverse timbres with electronic processingleaves a lasting impression. Recorded in 2014/2015. (C)RS
