The Band, a Canadian rock band. They were active primarily in the United States, served as Bob Dylans backing band, and earned the respect of many other bands by producing numerous masterpieces.The band disbanded after the release of *Islands* in 1977. Guitarist Robbie Robertson, a core member of the band, worked as a session guitarist and producer after the bands breakup and released his first solo album, *Robbie Robertson*, in 1987.Featuring contributions from U2s Bono and Peter Gabriel, among others, the album reached No. 38 on the U.S. album charts and was certified gold. He later revealed that he was of mixed Jewish-Canadian and Canadian Indigenous heritage and began creating music influenced by traditional Native American (Indigenous) music.
