Pink Floyds Mastermind Takes on StravinskyRoger Waters (formerly of Pink Floyd) returns to Sony Classical with his first album since the 2005 real-opera production *Sa Ira: There Is Hope*, presenting *The Soldiers Tale*, an unconventional work by Stravinskythe composer who radically reshaped 20th-century music. Billed as a work to be read, performed, and danced, *The Soldiers Tale* is a stage production performed by three narrators (the Storyteller, the Soldier, and the Devil) and seven instrumentalists. It was created in 1918, amidst the exhausted social climate immediately following World War I. Waters grandfather was killed in action during World War I, and his father went missing in action during World War II; these personal experiences served as the impetus for him to record this work. The original text was written in French, but Waters adapted it himself based on the English version. This
