A 20-CD box set tracing the career of Russian-born conductor and violist Rudolf Barshai (19242010). CDs 1 through 7 feature chamber music recordings in which Barshai performed as a violist alongside a stellar lineup of artists. CDs 8 through 19 focus on his performances as a conductor with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, which he founded, and include works by the long-overlooked composer Alexander Roksin, as well as the Japanese premiere performance of the completed version of Mahlers Symphony No. 10. CD 20 is a tribute to the renowned arranger, Barshai. Recorded from the 1950s through 2012. (C)RS
