J.K.F. Fischer was a Bohemian and is said to have been a highly influential musician and composer of his time. Little is known about his life, but it appears he served as Kapellmeister to Ludwig Wilhelm, a sovereign prince of the Holy Roman Empire, in the 1690s. His most famous work is *Parnassus of Music*, which fuses the French orchestral style with the German style. The two suites included in this recording are typically performed on the harpsichord, and versions played on the organ are considered rare.J.K. Kerl, on the other hand, was born in Adolf, in southwestern Saxony. He displayed musical talent from an early age. He studied at the Viennese court and appears to have associated with Carissimi and Frescobaldi in Rome.
