Carlos Salcedo (18851961), one of the 20th centurys leading composers and harpists, had a rich international background and career: born in Arcachon, France, he was also of Spanish descent; after making his mark in Paris, France, he moved to the United States during the latter half of his career.He achieved outstanding success, including winning first prizes in harp and piano at the Paris Conservatory, and during his time in the United States, he was invited by Toscanini to serve as principal harpist at the Metropolitan Opera.
