While there have been many recordings of classic masterpieces arranged for vocal performance in the past, this one is notable for being a choral arrangement by Villa-Lobos!Villa-Lobos is known for his orchestral works and guitar pieces rooted in Brazilian folk music. He composed approximately 1,000 works during his lifetime, many of which are choral pieces. This album features particularly rare choral arrangements by Villa-Lobos of works ranging from Bach to the Romantic era. These were written primarily for the Choir of the Orfeao dos Professores (Teachers Choir), which was active in Rio de Janeiro, and most were premiered between 1933 and 1935. While many of the original pieces are keyboard works, Villa-Lobos arranged them masterfully.
