Description:

Bernhard Lang (b. 1957), an Austrian composer, draws on a wide range of musical styles and genresfrom free jazz and improvisation to hip-hop and DJ cultureto create music that defies categorization. This work, *The Cold Trip*, is based on Schuberts *Winterreise* and belongs to Langs cycle of approximately 30 pieces known as Monadology, which represents a form of metacomposition using original scores from music history spanning from the year 900 to the present. Part 1 features Schuberts Songs 1 through 12 performed by vocals and four guitars, while Part 2 features Songs 13 through 24 performed by vocals and piano, and a laptop, utilizing a sample set from a prepared pianospecially prepared to create a palimpsest of Schuberts original texturesin the playback files.Tokyo M Plus
