Carl V (Carlos I as King of Spain) was one of the most powerful emperors of the Renaissance period, with dominion over what is now Austria, Belgium, and Spain, as well as over Germany and Italy. This CD is a collection of his life story. This CD is an extremely interesting collection of pieces related to his life. The title song, “A Thousand Sorrows,” is also known as “The Emperor’s Song,” and its shimmering form expresses the great anguish of the emperor as he struggled to expand his power.
