This is the third album by Serena Ott, winner of the trumpet division at the 2018 Munich International Music Competition.Her debut album, in which she showcased her virtuosity and overflowing musicality backed by an orchestra, won the 2021 OPUSKLASSIK Award. On this album, she delivers graceful performances of three modern and contemporary works. Shostakovichs Piano Concerto No. 1officially titled Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra, demands virtuosic solo techniques from the trumpet. By performing melodies quoted from a wide range of sourcesincluding Shostakovichs own works, other composers, and folk songsthe trumpet lends the piece a cynical yet comical flavor. Jolivets Concertino is a piece lasting about 10 minutes with a distinct jazz flavor, characterized by its lively rhythms.
