Rossini’s “Cenerentola” by Emma Dante, an Italian female director with a strong personality. The performance commemorated the 200th anniversary of the opera’s premiere on January 25, 1817 at the Teatro Valle in Rome. Rossini composed 39 operas in 20 years, but retired as an opera composer at the young age of 37. Cenerentola” is located right in the middle of his active period and is known as his masterpiece of opera buffa, second only to “The Barber of Seville,” which was composed the previous year. Cenerentola means “Cinderella” in Italian. It is based on Perrault’s famous fairy tale, but the magical and fairy tale elements that are commonly known, such as the glass slipper and the pumpkin carriage, have been reduced to a more realistic story.
