Noseda & the LSO’s 4th Shostakovich recording of Nos. 9 & 10, a testimony to the 20th century era! The London Symphony Orchestra and its principal guest conductor since the 2016/17 season, Gianandrea Noseda, have continuously featured Shostakovich’s symphonies. Of these, recordings of No. 5 in September 2016, No. 8 in April 2018, No. 4 in November 2018, and up to No. 1 in March 2019 have been released on the LSO Live label. This fourth release includes No. 9 from June 2018 and No. 9 recorded in January and February 2020 before the current lockdown. Noseda was Principal Guest Conductor under Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg for 10 years beginning in 1997, during which time he spent three months each year in the city where Shostakovich was born and raised.
