An album by Munich-based percussionist Simon Popp. Despite the technical precision and percussive detail, there is no rigid or academic feel to this album. The spirit of the world is alive not only in the traditional strikes of drumheads, but also in xylophones, singing bowls, tuning gongs, temple bells, metal pipes, tumbler drums, piezo-amplified electronic sounds, and more. Echoes, delays, and saturation are used to deepen the ambience, not to draw the listener away. Like threads of gold, these effects connect the natural and the artificial, the ancient and the modern, the individual and the collective. Like a golden thread, what was separate becomes one, and the joints are celebrated rather than hidden.
