Although Vidor is best known for his Symphony for Organ, he also composed several works for organ and orchestra. With a father who was an organist and a grandfather who was an organ builderit would be no exaggeration to say he was born to be an organistVidor unhesitatingly devoted his life to the organ. While serving as organist at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris for 65 years, he also taught organ and composition at the Paris Conservatory, nurturing many talented musicians, including Marcel Dupr. The two works included here are truly magnificent, possessing a heavenly sound. The concise composition and counterpoint that deliberately avoids complexity lend the pieces a crystalline clarity.
