Bachs Chorale Partitas are sets of variations based on chorales. A total of six pieces have survived, but two of them are considered forgeries; the four pieces believed to be authentic are BWV 766769. However, on this album, Stephen Fur dares to perform BWV 770, Ah, I, a sinner, what shall I do?, which is considered a forgery. He proves that even if it is not a work by Bach, it is a magnificent piece in its own right. The organ used for this recording was built in 2015 and installed in a private residence in Fairwarp, East Sussex. Although compact, it is a well-equipped instrument with three manuals, and this album marks its debut recording.Naxos Japan
