February 2020 Berlin State Opera live performance of “The Knight of Roses” conducted by Zubin Mehta, the former Master’s wife of Nyland’s overwhelming presence, performed at the Berlin State Opera in February 2020. The production was directed by Andr Heller, a multi-media artist active in many artistic fields. This was Heller’s debut at the Berlin State Opera. Stage design is by internationally renowned contemporary artist Xenia Hausner. Costumes are by Arthur Alvesse, a fashion designer with a cosmopolitan creative flair. The lavish decorations are inspired by Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau. The splendid lineup of singers is also noteworthy. Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund as the Marshaless, Gnter Froisbeck as Baron Ox, Michel Rosier as Octavian, and Nadine Sierra as Sophie, both making their debuts in the role.
