• Evermore is a fully realized, hour-long collection of songs rendered in muted, earthy tones: acoustic guitars played with fingers, pianos playing lurching, melancholy figures (the track “Tolerate It” is vaguely reminiscent of “Asleep” by the Smiths), electric guitars on the verge of sounding overdriven, warm, washed-out synthesizers and mandolin.
  Evermore effectively continues the work that Folklore started, taking Swift away from mainstream pop and into more alt-rock waters. It’s a smoother, less forced transition than perhaps some of her peers have made.
