Tchaikovsky’s 18 Pieces, which draws deep flavors from each piece, Tchaikovsky’s letter to his brother reporting the completion of his “18 Pieces,” Op. 72, was modest, without excessive exaggeration or embellishment. This is close to the content of the piece. At first glance, the compositions appear to be a simple collection of small pieces, but the deeper you go into them, the more you realize that they are full of poetic brilliance, melodic beauty, and a great variety of moods. The German-Uzbek pianist Nooron Mukumi’s performance conveys this charm. [Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1996, Nooron Mukhumi began playing the piano at the age of six, and by the time he was eight he was a child prodigy, playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20. He studied in Frankfurt and Zurich and is currently active as a soloist around the world.
