New Recording of Holst’s Hidden Masterpiece “Cloud Messenger”! Holst’s “Cloud Messenger” is a large-scale work for chorus and orchestra based on a text by the Indian poet Kalidasa. Although its premiere was a failure and it has been rarely performed, it is one of the hidden masterpieces, mysterious and dramatic, foreshadowing the masterpiece “The Planets”. The prestigious King’s College Choir of London, which has made a splash with its recordings of Brahms’ “German Requiem” “English Sung Version” (DCD 34195) and Martin’s “Mass for Double Chorus” (DCD 34211), has recorded “The Cloud Messenger” with Joseph Fort, music director since 2015.
