Sad and beautiful lofty melancholy. A collection of 17th century works played on violin and lute! The album “Mad Lovers” is a duo album of young players, Thotime Langlois de Swarte on violin and Thomas Danfort on lute, who are currently active mainly in France. The idea for this recording came about when the duo, while researching a work for violin and lute, discovered John Eccles’ “Ground” and immediately made it part of their repertoire. This piece is from John Eccles’ suite “The Mad Lover,” which is also the title of the album. Although it is incidental music with a playing time of about 3 minutes, it invites you into its sensual world. The melody is reminiscent of the beginning of the famous “Chaconne de Vitali,” and is played colorfully and variably. The program also includes works by Purcell, Nicolas Matteis, Matteis Jr. and Henry Eccles, all of which are beautifully woven
