A collection of violin works by Hans Gall, a composer born in Austria who fled Nazi persecution and spent the rest of his life in England. Deeply influenced by Brahms in his youth, Gall faithfully carried on that tradition and never ventured into avant-garde territory. Although his works were once forgotten, they have shown signs of a revival in the 21st century. This album features a violin concerto and two violin sonatas. The concerto, with its somber atmosphere; the Sonata in B-flat minor, characterized by its humorous second movement; and the Sonata in D major, notable for its light-hearted scherzoeach piece eloquently illustrates the style of this little-known composer.Naxos Japan
