Bassist Thomas Morgan’s new 2025 debut album, Around You Is a Forest. Bassist and composer Thomas Morgan’s long-awaited debut album is a rich, multi-layered journey of ambient textures and free improvisation. Featuring guest appearances by Bill Frisell, Craig Tayborne, Ambrose Akinmusire, Immanuel Wilkins, Henry Threadgill, Dan Weiss, and Gerald Cleaver, this album is both expansive and subtle, and is a unique example of Morgan’s WOODS” virtual instrumentation shapes its organic feel. The addition of poet Gary Snyder’s voice adds a new dimension to this environmental musical landscape. Co-produced by David Breskin and Jacob Bro, this is a bold message from one of jazz’s most respected collaborators, who has come into the limelight in earnest.
