This is the debut album of Trio Zadig, a piano trio formed by Boris Borgolot and Marc-Grard Garciaboth born in France and trained at the Paris Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts Viennaalong with American pianist Ian Barber, whom they met after returning to the United States. Named after a work by Voltaire, the group opens this album with the overture to Bernsteins musical *Candide*itself based on Voltaires originaland continues with the masterpiece *West Side Story*. and youll find yourself increasingly drawn in by the lively rhythms and the beauty of the melancholic phrasing (arranged by pianist-arranger Bruno Fontaine, who has released a string of acclaimed albums on Transart featuring Mozart and Bach with a French jazz sensibility).
