TV EYE was Birmingham’s first punk band, formed in 1976, featuring Andy Wicket, who later became the second vocalist of Duran Duran (Simon Le Bon was the third), and Dave Cusworth, who later worked with JACOBITES. As you can guess from the band’s name, the band has rough and loose punk rock influenced by Iggy Pop and the New York Dolls, plus a new wave feel that seems to have jumped ahead of its time under the influence of David Bowie. This album contains 5 studio tracks and 8 demos they left behind. Andy Wickett’s vocals are noteworthy, with a rough barking style directly under Iggy’s influence, and John Taylor and Nick Rose of Duran Duran, formed in 1978 in the same hometown, fell in love with this performance and recruited him to join the band. Incidentally, Duran Duran’s first single “GIRLS ON FILM” was written when Andy was in the band, and their big hit “RIO” was based on TV EYE’s “STEVIE’S RAD
