A collection of outstanding cello works by women composers from the 19th century to the present day! Oksana Omelchuk (1975-)’s “Homage to Clara Schumann,” a solo cello work in the language of the 21st century, takes a special place in the program, providing a contrast to the other romantic music. The cello sonata, filled with wonderful melodies by Louise Adolpha Le Beau (1850-1927), a late German Romantic composer who had studied with Clara Schumann, is also a highlight of the program. This work was recently featured by Stephen Isserlis. Both the work and the performance are excellent on this CD. Tokyo M-Plus
