Ryukyu Rare Groove Crossover” features jazz arrangements of Okinawan melodies and folk songs, with a focus on “Diggers Dozen” selected by MURO and Okinawan folk jazz funk by Kiyoshi Yamaya, which was featured on the “Ryukyu” 7-inch from Tropic Night Records, and instrumentals by Naoteru Misuna and Tokyo Cuban Boys, as well as Latin big band jazz and other instrumentals. The album also features Kiyoshi Yamaya’s work featured on “Diggers Dozen” (BBE) by DJ MURO, aka “King of Diggin’, and “Wamono Groove: Shakuhachi & Koto Jazz Funk 1976” (180g), as well as other works that combine Okinawan folk songs with Jazz Funk, Crossover, Crossover, Latin Big Band Jazz, and other instrumentation by Naoteru Misuna and Tokyo Cuban Boys. This is the latest in the series of “Ryukyu Rare Groove,” which was released in 2003 to much acclaim. (C)RS
