Description:

*Jenfa*, Janeks debut opera, is a blend of various elements, including verismo, Czech nationalism, and turn-of-the-century avant-garde. Amanda Lukcroft, who excels in this role, plays the title character and, through her wonderful partnership with Miroslav Dvorsk as Lza, delivers a compelling performance as this vulnerable young woman who ultimately finds salvation, love, and hope. Stefan Bronschweigs direction evokes deep emotion by depicting intense human relationships against a minimalist stage setting. And the greatest credit for this production goes, without a doubt, to Deborah Polaski as Kostelnica. She boldly brings to life this complex role, which possesses a duality: while inflicting suffering on others, she herself is tormented by anguish.Nippon Columbia
