This magnificent organ (82 stops, 6,500 pipes), built in Lyon as part of the 1878 Paris Worlds Fair by the renowned organ builder Aristide Cavaill-Coll, was modified by Victor Gonzalez in the 1930s. Originally located in the Grand Hall of the Palais de Chaillot in Parisopposite the Eiffel Towerit was moved to Lyon in 1977 and underwent further restoration in 2013, restoring it to its former glory. This historic organ is known for having hosted the premieres of numerous masterpieces, and great composers such as Franck, Dupr, and Messiaen have performed on it. It is truly a monumental instrument; in fact, Saint-Sans (18351921) masterpieces, Symphony No. 3 and The Cypress and the Laurel, were both premiered in France on this very organ.
