Performed with the strong sense of national character unique to the Russian pianist Ashkenazy, the work features an exhilarating sense of rhythm and a brilliant, majestic final movementall evoking a sense of nostalgia for Ukraine. On the B-side, Ashkenazy reveals his side as a pianist, performing Tchaikovskys rare piano piece, Memories of Hapsal. Composed of three movements, this work features the third movement, Song Without Words, a masterpiece that was also arranged for violin by Kreisler.
