This is the second volume in the complete Schubert piano sonatas from William Youn, the pianist born in Seoul in 1979.Youn began the piano at six, appeared with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at eleven, and moved to Boston at thirteen. After five years of study there he went on to work with Bernd Goetzke at the Hochschule fr Musik und Theater Hannover. He then won a scholarship through the highly competitive audition of the International Piano Academy Lake Como, studying there from 2006 to 2009, and also worked with Andreas Staier and Menahem Pressler. For Sony Classical he has recorded duo and chamber repertoire as the musical partner of the violist Nils Mnkemeyer, and the intimate music-making of “Mozart with Friends” (2016), alongside Sabine Meyer, Julia Fischer and Nils Mnkemeyer, was named Chamber Music Recording of the Year at the 2017 ECHO awards.
