The pipe organ at the Kanagawa Prefectural Hall, installed by the German firm Kreis in January 1975 to coincide with the halls opening, is the oldest instrument of its kind in any public hall in Japan. At the time, there were few precedents in Japan for full-scale concert activities centered on the organ, so various initiatives were undertaken to make the instrument accessible to as many people as possible, thereby contributing to the popularization of organ music. On this CD, Yumiko Oginowho also serves as the organ advisor for the Kanagawa Prefectural Hallmasterfully brings out the diverse expressions and charm of the organ, which features three manuals plus a pedalboard, 30 stops, and a total of 2,024 pipes.
