Yuriko Kurokuma:Born in Tokyo. She began studying the violin at age 8 and became a student of Saburo Sumi.In 1951, she won first prize and the Minister of Education Award in the elementary school division of the All-Japan Student Music Competition.She subsequently enrolled in the music department of Toho Gakuen High School in 1956. That same year, she won first prize and the Special Prize at the Japan Music Competition.In 1957, she made her debut with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, conducted by W. Loibner.In 1958, at the age of 18, she enrolled at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Prague as a student invited by the Czech government.While receiving instruction from Professor F.
